Newland Centennial Multi-Cache
B Navigator: Though geocaching has been a nice hobby, I can no longer maintain my caches due to being in college. As such, this cache will be archived. However, I hope that more caches can be placed in Newland. There was no container when I visited, so it may have been long gone...

Welcome to Newland, NC. This town is celebrating its 100th year of being the county seat of Avery County this July 6 (the date the cache was placed). Enjoy this 2 stage multi at the center of town. Lots of trails are nearby, such as Waterfall Park, Belleview Mtn, and the Riverwalk. Be sure to check out some of the nearby caches also.
The starting coordinates are not where the cache is- but where the Avery County town square is. It is also the location of the Avery County fallen soldiers memorial. Here is a layout of stage 2: north 36°AB.CDE west 081˚FG.HIJ. While you are figuring stage 2, please pay your respects to the fallen soldiers and veterans of the USA, who gave everything to preserving our freedom (and ultimately allowing us to be free to geocache and have fun). The answers are on one or both headstones, or on a flag above. A: last digit of the day of the month that Glenn H. Hicks died serving our country. B: In the branch of the military logo in the very middle of the stone, 3rdmost to the right roman numeral. C: Last digit of the year operation Iraqui Freedom officially ended. D: number of logos (pictures) on both stoned combined excluding military branches. E: number of letters of officer killed during the Roaring 20's minus six. F: Pat Ray Post # last digit minus one. G: Date (day of the month) on bottom scroll of red, yellow, blue, white flag minus seven. H: tens digit on the year that the shot (and war) heard round the world ended. I: number of words in the famous phrase at the bottom of the officers killed stone. J: number of words in the famous phrase at the bottom of the black flag multiplied by two. Yes, this may test your patience, but that is why the difficulty rating is 3. You might want a little wind for this one. Getting the numbers will give you the final coordinates, which will take you to a nearby park. You are looking for a lock'n'lock container with swag under some coverings. Hope you enjoy Newland, and the surrounding mountains. The park is relatively new, and has a nice walking path. If you want to see that your coordinates are correct, use the Checksum or the Geochecker (related web page. It says "no name specified" but its actually this cache.)
