Waiopehu Hut is often frequented by those seeking to complete Te Araroa, NZ's long distance Tamping journey. To log this cache, you'll need to go for a walk up the Waiopehu Track, which is in pretty good condition by Tararua standards, though there are plenty of bogs to negotiate. Waiopehu Hut is about 4 hours steady tramp from the well marked Poads Rd end. The Hut sleeps 18 on sleeping platforms and is on the crest of a ridge amongst sub-alpine scrub. Without a fire-place it can get a little chilly in winter, but on a good day there are great views out to Palmerston North and Levin. It'd make a moderate overnight tramp, or a reasonably long day trip to find this cache.
The cache is a 200ml Sistema box and it is not located inside the hut. Please BYO pencil, since its only a small cache (with a small original pencil!)
