Geocache Description:

You are searching for a camo matchstick container. My husband, who is tall, had to help place it.

The mammoth is the state fossil for Nebraska.  This is cache #14 in a series of 27 caches honoring the state symbols of Kansas and Nebraska along State Line Road.

The mammoth was designated as the Nebraska state fossil in 1967.  Mammoth fossils have been found in most of Nebraska's 93 counties.  One complete mammoth skeletons found in Lincoln County was one of the world's largest elephant fossils and is displayed at the University of Nebraska state museum in Lincoln.  Alaska also designates the mammoth as the state fossil.

The mammoth roamed over much of North America during the Ice Age, some 10,000 years ago.  They grew to be 10-12 feet high at the shoulder and could weigh in at 6-8 tons.  They are known for their long, curled tusks reaching 16 feet in length, and in pop culture via the Ice Age movies, although real mammoths rarely spoke English.
