Geocache Description:

There have been numerous sightings of a big cat in the region, often refered to as The Macarthur Panther. This cache series investigates some of the recent sightings of this mysterious creature.

A black panther is typically a colour variant of any of several species of larger cat. In the Americas, wild 'black panthers' may be black jaguars (Panthera onca), while in Asia and Africa, black leopards (Panthera pardus); in Asia, possibly the very rare black tigers (Panthera tigris). Smaller wild cats, like jaguarundi, may also be black.

Several sightings of the Macarthur Panther were reported in Wedderburn.

Resident Ted Lalor, 70, said he and a neighbour saw a panther near their homes six months ago.
"'I've shot feral cats before and there's no way a cat could grow to the size of the animal I'm talking about. Eventually someone will knock off one of these creatures, then people will finally believe they exist."

"My wife and I saw one walking across the road one night at the top of the causeway at Wedderburn, my son who was in a vehicle just in front of us saw it also." IAN WYATT

"My husband and his friends have seen it and close up. It was definitely a panther. It jumped over a fence right in front of them." MICHELLE TOWEEL

In the first six caches there is a clue regarding the possible species of this panther. Record cache number and the species as it will be needed to find the final cache.
