Because Team Chickeybabe is made up of two avid kayakers, we have really enjoyed searching for the many paddling caches here in the Virginia Beach area. Recently, we decided that it was time to contribute to the local paddle-caching community by creating a water cache of our own.
This cache is a tribute to our pet cockatiel, Chloe, who was born in Seaside, California in October of 1990.
Her parents, Sunny and Bubbles, were sorry to see her go, but she came to live with us in the spring of 1991. Her amazing personality made her the center of attention in our home, and she kept us entertained with her intelligence, sense of adventure, and total lack of fear.
Over the years, Chloe was the center of our flock, enduring a coast-to-coast move, a move into our newly-purchased first home, and providing companionship to Chickeybabe during two year-long deployments. With her mate Sydney, who had joined us in early 1992, she raised 10 beautiful baby birds, her offspring passing her cheerful good nature to a number of other homes. After improving our lives for 20 years, Chloe passed away in May 2011, just a few months shy of her 21st birthday.
Chloe’s Perch is located in a peaceful spot along West Neck Creek, and we hope that logging the find requires some of the fearlessness and problem-solving capabilities displayed by our beloved pet. It should be an easy paddle from the city kayak launch at Dozier’s Bridge. Approach GZ from the north because West Neck Creek has been blocked for the past three years by a logjam at N36° 44.4195’, W076° 02.8476’. The container should not be difficult to find, but may still present a challenge depending on the water level.
Congratulations to Booshaka, FTF!
