Tour De Morris Plains
This cache is about 100' over the Morris Plains border but this area is still Morris Plains mailing so I'm including it
Watnong Gardens is truly a hidden gem. What started as a backyard project has grown into a world-class garden that frequently hosts tour buses to see the amazing array of flora and fauna. Watnong Gardens has been recognized as one of the most beautiful gardens in America by Forbes Magazine. The name Watnong, which comes from the Native American term meaning “little hill,” was once part of Watnong Nursery and was owned by Don and Helen Smith. Some years ago, Helen and Frank Donn, longtime residents of Morris Plains who lived next to the nursery, bought the property from the Smiths’ estate. All told, this little space comprises about 2.5 acres, making it on the small side for public gardens but a perfect site for the numerous dwarf conifers and other small scale plantings that thrive here annually. Mrs. Donn still lives on the property and helps to keep it up even though it is now owned by the township of Parsippany and is open to the public.
Cache is not in the garden proper, no need to tear up the shrubbery to search. Pull past guardrail on Cairns Road for your own safety. Record the coords and code found in the cache to locate the final cache in the Tour de Morris Plains
