For about 25 years now this has been place we have camped many times. Initially it was before children (BC) and now AC (after children). It tends to be a dryish park, which has meant it has been a great place to come in the cooler, wetter months. Back then it was all open and you were spoilt for choice of camping spots. The latest incarnation has seen the proliferation of bollards, signage, designated camping spots and fire places etc. I’m afraid the “Nanny State” appears to have finally caught up with this picturesque location too.
Still, there is lots see and do here including bushwalking, mountain biking, ornithology or just enjoy relaxing in front of a nice hot campfire. There is an abundance of wild life and the vegetation is somewhat unique. Perhaps a favourite are the Blackboys (Xanthorrhoea) which grow quite large here in numerous, healthy stands. The sky is so often clear at night and along with seeing all stars, you will often spot a shooting star, satellites and jet planes far overhead if you keep a watchful eye.
With the above in mind, the TrewBlue families have chosen to set up a new cache just a short walk from Wenhams Campground as memento of all the good times that have been had in this park over the years and to encourage others to come and enjoy the area as well. The car can be safely left parked at the Campground and as you set off to find the cache, keep an eye out for the Blackboys.
The walk is approximately 350m from the Campground and access is good, although appropriate footware is recommended. You will be looking for a military style receptacle with a log book and writing stick, along with something placed from each of us including some Australiana, toys and various other nick nacs and jiggers.
