The property was converted into an ostrich farm in 1915 with 200 ostriches arriving from Port Augusta. The property returned to general farming in 1926 after the demise of the Ostrich farming industry. The 1850s section of the homestead and its adjacent barn represents an unusual aspect of South Australian agricultural production during the early part of the 20th century. The establishment of an ostrich farm in 1916, as a successor to the South Australian Ostrich Company's farm at Port Augusta, continued the 19th century agricultural experimentation of rearing ostriches for feather production until 1926, when changes in fashion trends caused the ostrich feathers to be no longer required.
