Geocache Description:

I go now, into the wild. As chronicled in the book about his trip, that's what Alexander Supertramp said before he headed into the Alaskan wilderness. He found an old bus and moved in for the season. If you want to go see an old bus in the Vermont wilderness, go now, into the wild. I hope you don't want to move in! You will want to get a close look at it, while looking for an small, round lock-n-lock.

The bus is on Forest Road 325 in the Green Mountain National Forest. The road is open in summer (May 1 to December 1) for high-clearance four wheel drive vehicles, crashco, ATVs, mountain bikes, horses, and hikers. The road is open in the winter to snowmobiles, cross country skiers and snowshoers.

The cache is more than five miles from the Somerset Road. Driving to this site took us about 45 minutes. Whether you drive or use another method of transport, be sure your mode of transportation is adequately fueled and that you allow plenty of time to reach your destination and return to civilization.

Otherwise, this is almost a park and grab!

A little more route information: From Route 9, take the Somerset Road 6 miles to reach Forest Road 325. Google Maps shows Forest Road 325 as Castle Brook Road. FR 325 may be gated at times but is generally open in the summer. Despite what you may see on maps, there are no other roads going into this location.

If you are leaving a vehicle, parking is available at this trailhead or on the Airport Road a few hundred yards up Somerset Road. Coordinates for FR 325 are N42 57.059/W072 59.249.

The story behind the cache -- I was out exploring with crashco and Zebra Girl, heading into the Somerset area to explore alternate routes to Glastenbury Mountain. We found the place to begin a hike to the mountain and then continued on to explore. We made it all the way to the end of the road, 7 miles in. You might want to see the end of the road too! The crashco mobile made it all the way out there. The lifted, big-wheeled pickup truck drivers were amused. So unless you are crashco be sure you drive the right vehicle out there. Like the ads say -- Closed course, professional driver, do not duplicate! Yes, crashco IS a professional driver!

Location info: This cache is located within the town of Glastenbury, in Bennington County. The only real access is from the town of Somerset, in Windham County.
