Geocache Description:

Simpsons Gap #4 in the series "Gaps Around Alice Springs".

A few years back, we had a cache at Simpsons, called 'Simpsons Picnic'. It was muggled, so this cache replaces it.

Start your scenic West Macs road trip here at Simpson's Gap or just come out for a picnic. Whatever you do, make sure you walk up into the Gap and look for rock wallabies - you WILL see them if you look hard enough.

No one really knows who Simpson was or why this absolutely stunning Gap was named after him. Darken Drive, the road into Simpsons, was named after Bob Darken, the first ranger at Simpsons back in the 1960s.

Simpson's Gap is a sacred site for Central Arrernte people. It's name is Rrungetyirpe (pronounced rung-ah-chirpa). It's a place associated with perentie (goanna) dreaming.

You'll need to stop in the picnic area with the gas BBQs and look for the Larapinta Trail to find this cache. The cache is a short walk along Section 2 of the Larapinta Trail.

Congratulations to Geomonkeys for the FTF!
