Geocache Description:

This is the fifth in a series called Feel the Burn.  I am placing caches along roads that I have taken with family and friends while biking.  Some will be in areas where we stopped to take a break and others will be in areas where the route nearly broke us.

HORSE DOG -- I like to bike very early in the morning for a couple reasons.  The cool morning air is very refreshing on a bike and there is far less traffic.  I can sometimes get my ride in before the rest of the family even stirs.  I have noticed a trend though on my morning rides.  Although most of the humans are still asleep, the canines are not.  I have been chased by more dogs in the morning than during any other time of day.  My only explanation is that dog owners let their pooches out in the morning to do their business while they wait inside to start the coffee or doze off in bed.  On one memorable occasion I was headed down this road and was chased by what appeared to be a small horse.  I was so frazzled by the incident that it was weeks before I could venture down the road again without my heart pounding.  Although I've run into other animals along this stretch of road like turkeys and deer, I have never been chased by the horse dog again.
