Match holder up little hill from Route 66 roadside near Montoya, NM.
The coming of the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific RR in 1902 stimulated the growth of a community here, which took the name Rountree, for its first postmaster, Henry K Rountree. The next year the name was changed to Montoya, likely at the suggestion of the railroad.
