Geocache Description:

Silver bison tube off Route 66 near Palomas, NM.  Recommend approaching cache from Route 66 (I40 frontage road) and unscrewing base (leaving top in position).

Palomas began as a railroad switch with the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific built its line between Dalhart, TX and Santa Rosa in 1901-01. A truck stop is here now. The name likely is derived from Palomas HIlls and Palomas Mesa, immediately to the southwest. Palomas is Spanish for doves.
