The trip up to this cache on what is known as Horizon Hill brings you to the highest point in Yachats and also overlooks the Adobe Inn. During World War II there was also a radar station located here close to the current city water tank. On the north side of the hill is a street called Radar Road but it does not reach the top of the hill.
One report indicated that during the war the military invested about a million dollars in foxholes and installing gun emplacements along Ocean Drive. The personnel stayed at the local skating rink and marched on the lawn in front of the Adobe Inn. After the war, the U.S. Coast Guard found Japanese mines that floated up onto the beaches and hauled them out to sea for destruction.
If you are trying to complete the Scenic Yachats tour to earn the Yachats Geocoin make sure you record the password on this inside cover of the cache. The Passport can be viewed and printed at goyachats.com/Geocaching. See GC4FTEN for details.
You are looking for a camo nut jar container. Part of the terrain rating covers getting up on Horizon Hill where this cache is located. The road up to the top is a city street but is one lane, very steep, and VERY limited turnouts. Be very careful when you travel up to the top.
