Traveling up the Yachats River Road gives you scenic views of the river in pastoral and rural farming surroundings. There are even two pastures with "oreo cows" in addition to the usual Black Angus and various milk cows. Several farms are along the road and provide fresh greens and other vegetables to local restaurants that they raise in their greenhouses during the winter.
Most of the streams feeding into the Yachats River are named after homesteaders who followed the coastal tribes into the fertile ground surrounding the river. One such stream is Carson Creek which runs alongside the Carson Cemetery which began as a family cemetery.
The turnoff to Carson Cemetery is pretty easy when headed up river, however, if returning to Yachats it will be a hairpin turn to double back into the road. The foliage is quite heavy with spruce, alder, and fir with thick undergrowth. It is possible to hear the creek as is runs through the trees but it fans out and dissipates in the pasture along the river road.
