Zu den ältesten Bräuchen zählt das Scheibenschlagen. Am ersten Fastensonntag des Jahres werden Scheiben aus Birken- oder Föhrenholz in der Größe von einem kleinen Teller auf eine Anhöhe hinaufgetragen. Bei Anbruch der Dämmerung wird dort ein Feuer entzündet. Die Holzscheiben, die in der Mitte ein Loch besitzen, werden an eine Haselrute gesteckt, und anschließend in das Feuer gehalten, bis sie glühen. Mit großem Geschrei und Aufsagen bestimmter Reime wird nun die Scheibe über die Kante in das Tal geschleudert. Mit dem Scheibenschlagen soll der Winter vertrieben werden.

One of the oldest traditions include the "Scheibenschlagen". On the first Sunday of Lent, Year slices of birch or shittim be carried up into the size of a small plate on a hill. At nightfall there is a fire ignited. The wooden discs that have a hole in the center to be plugged into a hazel switch, and then kept in the fire until they glow. With loud voices, reciting rhymes now certain the disc is thrown over the edge of the valley. With the disc hitting the winter will be marketed.

Una delle tradizioni più antiche della Val Venosta include il "Scheibenschlagen". Nella prima domenica della quaresima, ci si porta dei dischi di legna di betulla o pino della grandezza di un piattino su delle alture. Al calar della notte si accende un fuoco. I dischetti hanno un foro al centro, che si collega con una verga di nocciola. Dopo vengono tenuti nel fuoco fino a che si infuocano. Con alta voce e recitando rime precise ci si getta i dischi oltre il bordo dell´altura che saltano nel buio profondo. Con il "Scheibenschlagen" si dissipare l´inverno e si invoca fertilitá e buona sorte nell´amore.
