Piazza Grande a Palmanova rappresenta il fulcro della vita cittadina e il cuore del suo centro storico.
È stata realizzata dai Veneziani nel Seicento. É chiamata anche Piazza d'Armi in quanto il Provveditore della Serenissima Repubblica radunava in essa i suoi soldati per le esercitazioni militari.
Di forma esagonale, presenta al centro un'imponente e alto stendardo, simbolo della fortezza stessa, soprannominato famigliarmente "Mario" dagli abitanti di Palmanova.
Piazza Grande è circondata da molti palazzi storici veneziani come la Loggia della Gran Guardia, il Palazzo dei Provveditori Generali, il Palazzo del Monte di Pietà e il Palazzo del Governatore delle Armi che, insieme, costituiscono un esempio di architettura seriale militare. Vi si affaccia anche il maestoso Duomo Dogale, recentemente restaurato.

Piazza Grande in Palmanova forms the focus of the town's life and the heart of its centre.
It was built by the Venetians in the seventeenth century. It is also called Piazza d'Armi (Square of Weapons) because it is here that the Proveditor of the Serenissima Republic of Venice gathered his soldiers for military exercises.
Of hexagonal shape, at the centre it features an imposing and high banner - the symbol of the fortress itself - called "Mario" by the inhabitants of Palmanova.
