Geocache Description:

Located in Huntington Park in an area of memorials. This should be a fairly quick find.

During the night of 31 October, 1941 the U.S.S. Reuben James formed part of the escort of east bound convoy HX156. She positioned herself as a shield for an ammunition ship and received a torpedo fired by U-552, which detonated a magazine, sinking the bow at once while the ship itself sank in five minutes, killing all but 44 of the crew. You may have heard the folk song. (visit link) The four stacker's main gun armament were four 4"50 caliber guns, like you will see at the co-ordinates. The cache is a magnetic key holder, hidden below the gunner's side trunion. Good luck.
Park is open sunrise to sunset.
FTF gets bragging rights.
Congratulations to Cameramoose and Prytz+1 for a co-FTF. Added congrats to the FFTF!

This is a 2014 Hidey Award Nominee for Best Historic Cache.
