Bridges are not just functional, they can also be scenic and engineering attractions, so spare some time to admire this bridge over the Wakool River.

This bridge is a representative example of a Dare type timber truss bridge and was completed in 1929.

As a timber truss road bridge, it has many associational links with important historical events, including the expansion of the road network and economic activity throught NSW.

Dare trusses were fifth in the five stage design evolution of NSW timber truss raod bridges.

They were similar to Allan trusses, but contain improvements which make them stronger and easier to maintain.

The Gee Gee bridge is assessed as being State significant, primarily on the basis of its technical and historical significance.

This bridge exhibits the technical excellence of its design, as all the structural detail is clearly visible.

Maintenance and repair works were carried out in 1998, including re-decking. During these works a low level bridge was used to divert traffic from the bridge route.

Harvey Dare, the designer of Dare truss and other bridges was a leading engineer in the Public Works Dept. and a prominent figure in early 20th century NSW.
