There are more ways to see Martha's Vineyard than most people know. Unknown to most, there are old ways that pass through woodlands and meadows, by ponds and streams, where the Wampanoags traversed the Island for hundreds of years. Many of those ancient ways still crisscross the Island out of sight and out of mind.
I placed this cache here for two reasons; 1 because there was no caches in this area yet and it is interesting to get out and see places normal tourism doesn’t take you, 2 because it overlooks upper lagoon pond in which I refer to as Mermaid Lagoon since this island has become my Never Land. My story goes like this…
Once upon a time there were two children, a boy and a girl who had known each other their whole life as they grew they discovered they had what was true love and began dating. The girl’s mother referred to the boy as Peter Pan as he was a mischievous boy full of youth and life and she said he will never grow up. They dated for many years blissfully happy until one day an evil man came along and placed a spell upon the young girl. This spell lasted for 20yrs during which time the boy and girl did not see each other again. The girl was trapped... she would wish upon the stars and say “I’ll always believe in you Peter Pan”. Than, after the 20 year spell broke she indeed found her “Peter Pan” again and just where do you supposed the boy who would never grow up had taken up residence? On an island of coarse.. Never Land. And he still holds that twinkle of youth and mischief in his eyes… I’ll always believe in you Peter Pan ~your “wendy”
here is a wonderful site to visit that will show you all the beautiful trail maps to the island and be of use in your island geocaching http://www.mvlandbank.com/newfullmap4.shtml I myself enter this trail via a trail head near the roundabout on Edgartown Vineyard Haven Rd Weahtaqua Springs and there IS a small pull off there you can park on. If you are using the transit system to get around on as I did my last trip to "Neverland" you can take bus 7 or 9 and get off at the roundabout stop.
