Die Kapelle wurde vom CAI (Alpenverein) Bozen errichtet und am 1. April 1936 vom damaligen Pfarrer Hochw. Andrea Desalla eingeweiht. Dadurch wollte man den Bergsteigern, Wanderern und dem Dienstpersonal am Sellajoch an Sonn- und Feiertagen die Teilnahme an der Hl. Messe ermöglichen. Seit den Jahren nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wird im Sommer jeden Sonntag in dieser Kapelle eine Hl. Messe gefeiert. Die gotischen Fenster erinnern an die drei Sellatürme und die bemalten Glasscheiben stellen verschiedene Bergmotive sowie den Hl. Schutzengel dar. Der Messkelch wurde vom damaligen Papst Pius XI., der selbst ein begeisterter Bergsteiger war, gestiftet.

La cappella è stata costruita dal CAI di Bolzano per dare la possibilità agli scalatori, agli escursionisti e a chi lavorava nei rifugi e nelle baite al Passo Sella di assistere alla santa messa la domenica e nei giorni festivi. È stata consacrata il 1 aprile 1936 dal parroco Andrea Desalla. In questa occasione Papa Pio XI, egli stesso entusiasta scalatore, donò un prezioso calice. Dagli anni dopo la seconda guerra tutte le domeniche d’estate qui si celebra la santa messa. Le finestre in stile gotico ricordano le Tre Torri del Sella e i vetri colorati rappresentano diversi motivi alpinistici come pure S. Angelo Custode.
The chapel was built by the CAI of Bolzano to give the opportunity for climbers, hikers and those who worked in the mountain huts to the Sella Pass to attend Holy Mass on Sundays and public holidays. It was consecrated 1 April 1936 by the parish priest Andrea Desalla. On this occasion, Pope Pius XI, himself a keen climber, gave a precious chalice. From the years after World War all summer Sundays they celebrate a holy mass. The windows in the Gothic style reminiscent of the Tre Torri del Sella and colored glass are several reasons mountaineering as well as S. Guardian Angel.
