Please do not visit this cache between the hours of 22:00 and 08:00, thanks.
The cache is not at the published co-ordinates which are for stage one of this multi. This is a 7 stage multi with the stages all within walking distances of each other. After finding the sixth stage why not have a coffee whilst you work out the final co-ordinates.
The site is family friendly and wheelchair accessible with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. Parking is available for free on site, although can be in short supply if there is an event on.
History of Seale-Hayne.
In 1903 the Rt. Hon Charles Seale-Hayne, a local land owner, entrepreneur and Liberal MP, bequeathed £100,000 on his death to be invested in establishing a "college for agricultural and technical education in the immediate neighbourhood of Newton Abbot." Work on the Seale-Hayne Agricultural College started in 1912 but opening was delayed due to the onset of WWI in 1914, the College being used to train 'land girls' for farm work. After the war it was used briefly as a Military Hospital for neurasthenic cases before officially opening as an Agricultural College in late 1919, the first women being admitted to the college in 1937.
In 1939 when WWII was declared, the College was requisitioned for training of the Woman's Land Army and by December1942 over 800 women had been trained and Seale-Hayne had become a centre for research and development to aid the war effort.
By 1972 Seale-Hayne had significantly expanded student numbers and courses and in 1989 the Agricultural College merged with Plymouth Polytechnic. In 2005 the college closed and The Seale-Hayne Future Group was formed to campaign for retention of education at Seale-Hayne and food production at the farm.
In 2009 the site was bought by the current land owner and a local farmer bought the farm.
Thanks to the current land owner for giving permission for this cache.
The cache is at N50 32.ABC W003 39.DEF.
