Geocache Description:

This cache is being put out to fill a gap in the Cateran Link trail so that more cachers will be encouraged to walk the trail from end to end.

The Trail can be tackled in five easy stages. (Or walked in 4/5 days.) It is fully waymarked with Cateran Trail signs – plus a few unique hand-carved posts that are discoverable.

It is advisable to carry The Cateran Trail map or the Landranger OS map sheet 43 and know how to use it. Boots are essential.
Looking North from the cache GZ

The cache is located at a boundary between the agricultural fields of the Ashintully Castle Estate, mainly in grass to the south and the rough moorland towards the Lair in the north. The castle is a large house built around an original 16th century tower.

Please do not enter the castle area. Stick to the paths and stiles when passing through this area.

Although at first, there seems to be a lack of wildlife, keep an eye out for oyster catchers, curlews, lapwings, skylarks and buzzards.
