This regular sized cache is a plastic container that holds a log, pencil (but bring one anyway - you know how they go missing and you don't want to be this far without something to write with) and some trading items. It has plenty of space for travelers.
I placed this cache on Day 6 of my 8 Day Lemosho Route Climb up Kilimanjaro. Finding this cache the day before you summit makes for a perfect acclimatization climb (climb high/sleep low). You could find it after you summit the next day; but if you are anything like me, you will be pretty exhausted by then. I really appreciated climbing a bit higher from Barafu Camp the day before my summit because on summit day all of this part of the hike will be in the dark. It gives you a good sense (and some confidence) for what you will experience on summit day.
My guides, Dickson and Shaban, helped me place this cache. They will monitor and maintain this cache as they climb Kilimanjaro many times a year. My thanks to both Dickson and Shaban, and my entire team, for being a vital part of my successful Kilimanjaro summit. We enjoyed a beautiful summit day with only the four of us on the top by the time we arrived. We began our summit bid at 3:00 am, a bit later than most, so by the time we got to the top, we had it to ourselves. The sunrise, lower down, was gorgeous coming up through the clouds; the sense of accomplishment at the top tremendous, and the satisfaction and relief once down incredible. Walking on the snows of Kilimanjaro - PRICELESS. Good luck to all those that follow. Remember pole, pole (slowly, slowly) and you too will find yourself on the Roof of Africa.
