Geocache Description:

The beautiful Texas Madrone Tree, often referred to as a Lady's Leg, is a real native Hill Country gem.  This cache is near a magnificent tree that we noticed by accident a few years ago on a normal commute to nearby San Antonio.

We just love these beautiful trees.  The bark peels back as the tree grows, revealing smooth, soft tree trunks.  The pink to orange color makes them a real stand out when you find them growing in native pastures and fields.   When reading about these trees, we discovered they are extremely hard to grow in controlled settings, and can take up to 100 years to grow to full size.  Beej learned of the Lady's Leg as a child from her grandfather, who showed them to her growing on her family ranch.  Nearby Bear Springs Blossoms Nature Conservation has over 300 of these trees.  Be sure to grab a photo of this lovely tree.
