Geocache Description:

The "BANCHEE" is a type of air raid or tornado warning horn installed all across the country.

Here in New Jersey these sirens remain as reminders of the past- mounted high above the ground and rusting away.

In the Midwest, these type of sirens are still in service to warn everyone of an incoming tornado. When we lived in Southern Illinois we would hear sirens like this sound off- indicating an immediate need to seek shelter.

This GZ marks the location of a siren that looks very similar to a Banchee. This one however appears to be a Model 2 siren made by Federal Signal. This model and many others are all over the place, used for fire departments, air raid warnings, nuclear power plant meltdowns and severe weather warnings.
