Geocache Description:

Construction started on The Bay West Mall, which will be similar in size to Cape Town’s Canal Walk, in June 2013, and is expected to open some time in 2015.

The cache has been moved from its original position due to road works that turned the cache location into a tiny island surrounded by worker muggles! It is now located in the nearby Sherwood flower reserve. The view of the new mall is also better from this new position.

It is said that about 10 000 jobs will be created during the construction phase – 3 000 through direct employment and more than 7 000 indirect and induced jobs. Permanent jobs will number 1500 to staff 250 retail outlets in the 90 000m² shopping centre. The mall is central to the development of the greater Bay West City project, for which the developers have earmarked 300 ha. Although the mall itself is planned to open in 2015, the construction of peripheral components of the Bay West City precinct is expected to take another 15 years!
