Owned and operated by Aurora Historical Society, Hillary House National Historic Site was built in 1862 for Dr. Walter Geikie and his family. It was eventually purchased by Dr. Robert William Hillary in 1876 and stayed within the family until the Aurora Historical society purchased the house until the 1980s. Be sure to explore the covered areas near the house.

It was eventually purchased by Dr. Robert William Hillary in 1876 and stayed within the family until the Aurora Historical society purchased the house until the 1980s. When you arrive at Hillary House, be sure to explore the area around close to the house. The verandah was frequently used by the family for picnics, and has also been the location of many Hillary family photos throughout history. The gardens nearest the front door have a unique history as well, as they were planted by Dr. Robert Michael Hillary and his son, Horace. The Barn is said to have been built around the same time as the house and was where the Hillary family kept their horse and carriage. The garden nearest the barn is known as Mary's Garden, named after another one of the Hillary children who was an avid gardener. Keep an eye out around that side of the house for our cache!
