Each New Year's Day the Toton Duck Race takes place along a 600 yard stretch of the Erewash River as it passes through Manor Farm Recreation Ground. The annual charity event, which has been going since 1991, is usually witnessed by hundreds of local people who line the banks of the river to cheer on their duck. There are 1,500 individually numbered ducks and the sponsors of the first ten ducks to reach the finishing line win a prize. The event is always a family-friendly afternoon out, with mulled wine, mince pies, music and a festival atmosphere.
At other times, the park is frequented by dog walkers and people with toddlers. There is a nearby playground for the kids, a cricket ground with pavilion and a bowling club. Car park co-ordinates are N 52 54.264; W 001 15.196.
This cache is a small tin with screw-on lid and is located a little downstream from the Duck Race starting point (Carrfield Avenue bridge) . Please take care as there is water nearby -watch young children and don't risk falling in!
