A nano in the woods? Nope! Think just a bit larger though. Log, but no pencil. So BYOP please!
Patriots' Path stretches from East Hanover, which connects with the Lenape Trail in Essex County to Allamuchy Mountain State Park in Sussex County and the Village of High Bridge in Hunterdon County. Any Morris County cacher worth their salt has been on the Patriots' Path. It is ubiquitous and traverses some of the most beautiful terrain in the county. However, there are some sections that I would bet that most cachers have never been on, nor even know that they even exist.
This section of the Patriot's Path is well used by joggers and bicyclists, however what is probably not know is that this section of the Patriot's Path runs on top of what was called the Rockaway Valley Railroad. Construction was started in 1888, with hopes that a 25-mile long stretch of track would connect Somerset & Morris Counties. The railroad originally started in White House Station, and eventually, in 1895, the railroad reached Watnong Station just outside Morristown. The railroad was nicknamed Rock-a-bye Baby because of the side-to-side lurching the rail cars had while moving along the rail line.
This cache is a continuation of the series of caches, that MetsFanInNJ started (and placed with his permission
) to highlight these lesser known stretches and give them their due. This cache is wheelchair accessible, so everyone can enjoy it! PLEASE, please, please replace the cache exactly as you found it. /p> Congratulations to daveprenj on the FTF. Honorable mention for the STF goes to MetsFanInNJ
