Wait. Isn’t that supposed to be, “See you later, alligator”? Well, yes, and you may very well find an alligator near this event, but that’s not the point.
As most of you cachers know, I (cameracowgirl) will be moving to Nanaimo in early September to live near the VIU campus, where I will be a full-time student. I hope to move back to the South Island when I am finished my program, but if I do move back it won’t be until at least the summer of 2014. Unfortunately, this means that I will miss attending caching events and searching for little containers in the woods with my South-Island geo-friends for about a year. I would love to say "thank you" and "good-bye" to you all before I move.
We will be gathering together on Sunday, August 25, between 5-7 pm at the picnic shelter at the day use section of Goldstream Park (the posted co-ords are approximate, but you can use your geo-senses).
There are a few geocaches in that section of the park, for those of you who would like to go searching. There is plenty of free parking here, and I have been told by the park staff that you should have no problem finding a parking spot at that time of day, especially in the lots that are closest to the shelter.
Bring your own picnic dinner and non-alcoholic beverages. No need to bring dessert, as I will be handing out Nanaimo bars (I thought that they would be appropriate
). If there is no campfire ban in effect at that time, you will also need to bring a special tool to this event—a stick for roasting marshmallows! I will be bringing along firewood and the ingredients for s’mores.
We will be playing a game for the FTF prize that requires you to either bring your GPS or borrow one from a friend at the event. Wise cachers will also remember to bring a lawn chair, mosquito repellant, and a jacket.
Please let me know how many will be in your caching party when you log your “will attend,” so that I can be sure to bring enough desserts for everyone. Hope to see you all there!
