Geocache Description:

We think this is one of the most delightful spots in St Lawrence. You can pull over on the side of the road to grab this cache or combine it with Petits Hiboux, A Goblin’s Stolen Treasure and The Fairy Trading Post for a lovely walk around these lanes.

Close by to this cache is the abreuvoir, a watering place for animals. The meadows to the left, the 16th century Le Rat cottage and the strip of woodland on the right, Le Cotil de la Qualite, all belong to the National Trust.

Le Rat cottage was the first property purchased by the Trust in 1937 for the sum of £200. At the time it was in a dilapidated state with the land and buildings being used as a pig farm.  During 1998, the Trust undertook a significant programme of repair.  It renovated the whole building, whilst safeguarding the historic fabric such as the original pantiles on the roof and the handmade glass in the windows.

Note the dripstones on the chimney stack. These stones were also known as witches stones, because it was rumoured that a witch could use them for a rest during her flight.

To the right is La Fontaine St Martin, which is said to be a sacred spring and its water to have healing powers.
