Geocache Description:

John de Barry became the local squire following the Norman conquest. It was he who founded this monastery, for the Carmelite friars, in 1307.

Following the Reformation, the friary and its lands became the property of the Earl of Cork, Richard Boyle.

The friary ruins were used for a hedge school during the 18th century, but this ceased when part of the wall collapsed, killing the teacher's wife and several pupils.

The cache can be quickly retrieved from inside.
