Geocache Description:

Coolagown has been home to the art of smithing for several generations.

An Ghabhann, or the Blacksmith, was a central figure in rural Ireland up until the late 1960s. He worked in An Ceartan, the Forge, shoeing the horses upon which all local farmers depended.

Coolagown has paid tribute to 2 local families who were famed for their anvil work, by the erection of this brilliant sculpture.

Listen carefully and you might hear the hammer strike the anvil, smell the coal burning and the hooves singeing, but don't let your caching efforts be blown away by the bellows.
