This cache is a continuation of the history of the 804 Trails ("A Rocky Start" GC11THT.) The site is south of the walking bridge over a small creek that indicates the meeting of the North and South 804 Trail. Please stay on the established trails along the bluff in front of the motels. The Adobe Inn has graciously allowed access across their property for the beginning of the 804 South.
After the legal battles that occurred over the North Trail, a similar lengthy battle began in the 1990’s and took almost ten years of mediation with the home owners to permit the establishment of the 804 Trail South to the Yachats River. If you continue south across the Yachats River Bridge, you can find evidence of the shell middens that are exposed along the beachside of the cliff.
The coords should place you right next to the cache, sit down, take some pictures and enjoy the view. There is no need to trample the salal or beach grass because there is a small trail past the cache. Parking is at Smelt Sands Park or the Yachats Commons.
Per the usual, high muggle traffic warning! The times are rare that there are not residents, visitors, cachers, or dogs along the trail.
If you are trying to complete the Scenic Yachats tour to earn the Yachats Geocoin make sure you record the password on this inside cover of the cache. The Passport can be viewed and printed at goyachats.com/Geocaching. See GC4FTEN for details.
