Geocache Description:

Mt Sunday located in the middle of the Rangitata river valley. Wonderful views reward those who climb to the summit. There is a 10 minute walk to the cache and a further 15 minutes to the summit. Remember the sense of desolation that the early settlers felt in here. Samuel Butler used this isolation for his novel Erehwon (that is Nowhere backwards)

This was one of the most famous and accessible film locations from The Lord of the Rings. The capital of Rohan and home to Meduseld, the hall of King Theoden. Walk where the cast & crew made a little piece of movie magic. The production crew took nine months to build the set at the top of sheer cliffs, building Golden Hall and surrounding buildings at the top, with the gatehouse and more buildings at its foot. Do not listen to Wormtounge when he tries to convince you not to attempt the summit! I climbed this small peak a few years back before the bridges where in place, fording the streams was a cold experience.
