Geocache Description:

St. Leonard's Church, Dunnamaggan, County Kilkenny.

This is not the type of church you normally see. It stands out from the crowd and there is a reason for this.

In this small village in a rural part of Kilkenny back in 1971 they ran a competition for it's design. Only people from the parish were allowed to enter. Most entries were the typical stone building that is seen everywhere. But one man, Leonard Murphy, came up with this design. The Bishop Of Ossory, Peter Birch, was not pleased at first but had to go along with it in the end. As part of the prize the church was named after the winner and he also won seven cattle and a bucket.
