Geocache Description:

You seek a small camo'd container at the site of a historical mystery - part of a small series about how North Carolina seems to work its way into about every really big news story.

If you think about it and look deep enough, every really big, world-changing, break-into-regular-programming news story seems to somehow always involve the state of North Carolina somehow. (Florida, too, but that's another cache series.) Take, for instance, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the so-called "mastermind of 9/11" attended college - in North Carolina. Attempted Reagan assasin John Hinckley was found fit to have a trial - after being evaluated - in North Carolina. The manufacturer of the guns that were used in the massacres at Columbine and Sandy Hook is headquartered - in North Carolina.....

Also, consider the following adapted from the book "North Carolina Curiosities (2007 / Globe Pequot)
On the evening of November 23,1963,while the country was reeling with the news of the assassination of President Kennedy earlier that day, accused assassin Lee Harvey Oswald was housed in the Dallas City Jail. From his jail cell that evening, Oswald called his mother, then he called his wife, them he mysteriously asked to call a John Hurt in the 919 area code. The jail operator could not - or would not - connect the line, and the call was never completed. Oswald had never lived in or visited Raleigh, and just why it was important for him to speak to someone there at such a critical time was a secret that he took to his grave.
Later investigators and Kennedy assassination enthusiasts looked into the call. At the time, there were only two John Hurts in the entire 919 area code. One of them was an auto mechanic, the other was a retired U.S. Army Counterintelligence Officer.

One of the John Hurts lived near this cache site on Old Wake Forest Road, the other Lived at 201 Hillsborough Street near downtown Raleigh at what is now a parking lot. Wimseyguy's excellent geocache Music City Audition #11. - Steeplechase (GCKGGY) is at almost the exact location.
