Geocache Description:

Dame Agatha Christie, DBE

Murder most foul is not an issue with this puzzle. Rather it's the intrigue of solving the mystery to find the hidden stash.

Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller was born 15 September 1890 in Torquay, England.  She is best remembered for the 66 detective novels and more than 15 short story collections she wrote under her own name.  She also wrote six books under the pen name Mary Westmacott.

According to the Guinness Book of Records, Dame Agatha is the bestselling novelist of all time.  Her novels have sold roughly 4 billion copies and have been translated into at least 103 languages.  Dame Agatha is also the author of the world’s longest running play – ‘The Mousetrap’.  It opened at the Ambassadors Theatre in London 25 Nov 1952 and is still running today with more than 25000 performances (as of 2012).

Agatha married Archie Christie on Christmas Eve 1914 during World War 1, while Archie was briefly home on leave.  This marriage ended in divorce in 1928.  Agatha’s second marriage was to Max Mallowan in 1930 whom she met during an archaeological dig.  Christie's travels with Mallowan contributed background to several of her subsequent novels set in the Middle East.

In 1971 she was made a Dame by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, three years after her husband was knighted.  They were one of the few married couples to both be honoured in their own right.  They were married for 46 years until Agatha’s death on 12 January 1976.
