Geocache Description:

Drive four miles west of the cattle guard at the mouth of Poudre Canyon and park on top of Water Works Hill on the right.

This is our favorite hill in the lower canyon. Named after the Fort Collins Water Treatment Plant located just east in the Gateway Natural Area, a city of Fort Collins park, we've enjoyed the wildlife, diverse plant communities, scenery, and history...as well as watching two forest fires.

From this hill we've seen black bear, mountain lion, bighorn sheep, mule deer, red fox, gray fox, raccoon, skunk, mink and lots of bird species. A couple days ago while scouting where to hide the cache, we saw a gray catbird over the steep bank on the north end of the parking lot. That was a new bird for us on Water Works Hill...fun stuff!

We suggest some day stopping in and checking out Gateway Natural Area. It's a beautiful and well-maintained city park in the mountains.

Oh, and one last thing, this park was originally called Gateway Mountain Park. Now it's called Gateway Natural area...NATURE-ally.
