Le pont Jean-de-LaLande, construit en 1894 et 1895, est un pont métallique à poutres triangulées de type camelback, structure dont il subsiste peu d'exemples au Québec. Il s’agit de l'un des plus anciens ponts de ce type dans la province.
Ce pont fut à l’origine aménagé au-dessus de la rivière Saint-Charles dans la paroisse de Saint-Timothée. Il raccordait alors la route provinciale numéro 3 avec l’extrémité est de l’île Salaberry, aussi appelée la Grande-Île. Dans les années 1930, il fut déménagé au-dessus du vieux canal de Beauharnois à la hauteur du chemin Larocque. En 2006, afin de permettre la navigation de plaisance sur la portion du canal située au centre-ville, il fut démantelé pièce par pièce avant de subir une restauration complète et méticuleuse. On le réinstalla en 2011 au-dessus d’une autre portion du canal face au marché public.
The Jean-de-LaLande bridge, built in 1894 and 1895, is a steel truss camelback type structure which few examples remain in Quebec. It is one of the oldest bridges of its kind in the province.
This bridge was originally built over the Saint-Charles River in the parish of Saint Timothée. It connected the provincial road number 3 with the eastern end of the Salaberry island, also called Grande-Île. In the 1930s, it was moved over the Old Beauharnois canal adjacent to chemin Larocque. In 2006, to allow boating on the canal portion located in the city center, it was dismantled piece by piece before undergoing a complete and meticulous restoration. It was reinstalled in 2011 over another portion of the channel situated opposite the public market.
