Geocache Description:

A memorial to a special place, the Temple of the Birds (our name for the old power substation building) and the final resting place of the old Saltair Trolley Railcar. These two items were the last vestiges of the original Saltair.

The cache is a micro located next to the road. There is no need to enter the field to find the cache. This should be a very quick park and grab for most. Please be cautious when removing and replacing the cache, as it could be dropped easily.

Congratulations to RN+Terrier on the FTF!

This spot used to be the entrance to an area containing an old Saltair power station and the end of the line for an old Saltair Trolley Railcar.  They were both demolished in 2012.

Original Trolley Car Photo

In recent years, the power station and the trolley car were a popular destination for many different kinds of people. Since it was a popular canvas for graffiti artists, the power station and the trolley car both were also magnet for photography. It was utilized by many photographers as a backdrop for bridal photos and family portraits.

Finally, among a certain group of photographers, the power station was a perfect shelter for photographing lightning and storms approaching the Great Salt Lake and passing over Antelope Island. Of course it was also home to many birds, especially swallows who inhabited mud nests inside.

If you have any memories or stories of this area, please feel free to add them to your cache log. You can also check out the Salt Lake Rail Car Shrine on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/234385656654412/
