These places certainly polarise opinions amongst the population, but love them or hate them thet're here to stay and will become an acceptable way of dealing with some of our waste streams. personally i don't mind them at all and would rather see these in communities than a hole in the ground especially if they incorporate community heating schemes to deal with the waste heat.
Construction started on this facility in December 2011 with completion due in 2014. Once completed the EfW facility will have a capacity to process 300,000 tonnes of residual, non-recyclable waste and will deliver substantial environmental benefits including the landfill diversion of up to 95% of waste delivered to the facility and the generation of up to 24MW of renewable electricity to be supplied to the National Grid. It is also proposed to used the waste heat for a community heating scheme to the proposed Bicester Eco town development in the future.
