Geocache Description:

You are searching for an ammo can along the blue blazed hiking trail. Cache was placed close to the trail, please rehide so that it will not be seen by people hiking the trail. After finding the cache continue along the trail and it will loop back to the parking area. Along the walk you will pass the Collins Cemetary where some of the early pioneers of Polk County were laid to rest.

NOTE: Please stop at the Tenoroc Headquarters (waypoint below) and purchase a $3 pass for each person before proceeding to the parking and hiking trail. Tenoroc is open Friday through Monday, 6AM-6PM. This cache is located within the Tenoroc Fish Management Area. Failure to purchase a pass may result in a fine and geocaches may be removed from the property. Visitors should be aware of seasonal hunting and must abide by all area regulations while on the area. Please visit MyFWC for more information. This property is only open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Tenoroc is a gateway site for the Great Florida Birding Trail. It was selected for the distinction based on its excellent bird watching opportunities. The numerous lakes attract good numbers of wading birds, waterfowl, raptors such as osprey and eagles. Songbirds pause here during spring and fall migrations. Nesting ospreys are common in the spring and one of the state's largest wading bird colonies boasts snowy egrets, white ibises, and anhingas.

The Tenoroc trails pass over both reclaimed and unreclaimed mining property and the graded crest road of an earthen dam. Trails on Rattlesnake Ridge on the southern portion of the Blue Loop Trail are steep and narrow but offer pleasant vistas of lakes and forests.

This is a Letterbox Hybrid cache. For anyone not familiar with Letterboxing there is a log in the box for you to sign and stamp (with your stamp), then you stamp your own log or paper (with stamp that is in the box). If you do not have your own stamp, then stickers or handrawn artwork is acceptable. DO NOT TAKE STAMP WITH YOU; IT IS NOT A TRADE ITEM!!!

This geocache is a part of the Trek Ten Trails 2014 program. Participation in that program, while a lot of fun, is not required to log this cache here. Trek Ten Trails 2014 program marks the seventh year of the Friends of the Parks Foundation’s call to explore the outdoors in Polk County. Fifteen nature trails and a bonus cache have been hidden at nature trail locations throughout Polk County this year. Each nature trail includes geocaches with a self-inking stamp for validating your visits to at least ten of the featured trails. To receive a completion certificate and be eligible for a other prizes you must find ten caches. Of course you may trek all fifteen trails and we hope you do!

New validation game cards, which participants stamp are available at various locations and are listed on the Friends of the Parks website and OUTPOST 27 CACHE. Trek Ten Trails 2014 program maps, game cards and other information about each of the featured nature trails may be downloaded from the Friends of the Parks website. Check out our Profile for more details.
