Geocache Description:

Lewis & Clark stopped at the confluence of the Kansas (Kaw) and the Missouri rivers for three days back in 1804. This is located near a paved path just off the main path.

On May 14, 1804, President Jefferson sent Captain Meriwether Lewis and Lt. William Clark, along with the initial crew of 51 men “to trace the Missouri to its source, to cross the Highlands, and follow the best water communication which offered itself from thence to the Pacific Ocean.” The expedition arrived at “Kaw's Mouth” on June 26, 1804. Now called “Kaw Point” is where the Kansas River runs into the Missouri River. Kaw's Point, in 1804, was about 1/4 mile up the Missouri river from its current location.

This park commemorates the time this expedition spent exploring the area.

The ground can be soft in this area.
