I can hear Pat Benetar's "Invicible" playing right now. From Mr. Schmitz's perspective: I grew up in Oklahoma. I have seen this movie so many times and still I enjoy watching it. One reason would have to be the main actress who portrays Billie Jean. When your 10 years old the Plot of a movie means nothing just the content. After Helen Slater was Supergirl, you start to follow her career even now I watch her on Smallville. I moved to Corpus and it took about 4 years until i met my Bride that she told me the Billie Jean was filmed here in Corpus. To this day i ask anyone with knowledge where was the Miniature Golf Course was. Also where is the House that had a slide from the 2nd story window to the swimming pool.(yes I understand that anything is possible in Hollywood). The other reason would have to be when your in a Land-Locked area, anything with the Beach is awesome to watch. With those two factors i am apart of the cult following that this movie has now. ########################################################### MOVIE INFO Billie Jean Davy (Helen Slater), a Corpus Christi, Texas high school girl, rides with her younger brother, Binx (Christian Slater), on a Honda Elite to a local lake to enjoy a day of swimming and relaxation. A group of teenage boys, led by Hubie Pyatt (Barry Tubb), a school rival of Binx, start trouble with them, but Billie Jean humiliates Hubie and they get away. Later at the lake, Billie Jean tells Binx about Vermont, and Binx expresses a desire to go there. During their conversation about travelling there, Hubie and his friends arrive, apparently looking to settle a score with Binx. They find Binx's scooter, and steal it. Billie Jean, Binx, and their friends Putter (Yeardley Smith) and Ophelia (Martha Gehman) go to the police about the scooter. They speak to Detective Ringwald (Peter Coyote) about it, but he doesn't take them seriously. He assumes it's just a harmless squabble between some kids. Later, Binx goes to get his scooter back on his own. He comes home severely beaten, and his scooter is trashed. Billie Jean, Binx, and Ophelia go to Mr. Pyatt's shop to get the money ($608.00) to repair the scooter. Mr. Pyatt takes Billie upstairs to a room to give her the money. Instead, he tries to give her only $50.00 and tries something else with her, telling her it's like 'Pay as you go, earn as you learn' and that every time she comes back, she'll get a little more. Not realizing what is happening upstairs, Binx goes into the store himself. Finding the store empty, he leans over the counter and opens the cash register to get his money, but instead finds a pistol inside. Billie comes running down the stairs, with Mr. Pyatt right behind her. When Mr. Pyatt sees that Binx has the pistol. Mr Pyatt tries to trick Binx by saying the pistol isn't loaded. Binx accidentally discharges it, hitting Mr Pyatt in the left shoulder. The kids race away from the shop and become fugitives. By the time Detective Ringwald realizes that he made a mistake in not listening to Billie Jean, the situation is spinning out of control. Throughout it all, she only wants the $608 to fix her brother's scooter, and an apology from Mr. Pyatt. Billie Jean decides to make a video of her demands, and before she makes the tape she cuts her long, blond hair into a crew cut as a sign of her rebellion. As the media coverage increases Billie Jean becomes a teen icon - a symbol of youth empowerment, and the evidence of the injustices adults are capable of. In the movie, Billie Jean and the others watch a movie about Joan of Arc, the movie is Saint Joan (1957). The radio station shown and heard throughout the film still exists in Corpus Christi, Texas as KNCN "C101" The original title of the film was "Fair is Fair." It was changed to "The Legend of Billie Jean" after test audiences didn't respond to the original. Shortly before release the title was changed back to "Fair is Fair" and then once again back to "The Legend of Billie Jean". Movie posters exist with the "Fair is Fair" title, however they are really an applied overlay over the originally printed title "The Legend of Billie Jean", and that title is what appears in the printed credits at the bottom of the poster.
