Geocache Description:

This is a nice easy cache to locate but please do use extreme stealth at all times as this is a busy area with traffic. Also please rehide very well. Wheelchair access is good as the cache is approached on pavements.

PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN PEN - LOGBOOK MUST BE SIGNED!

Newton Abbot station was originally opened by the South Devon Railway in 1846 and subsequently rebuilt between 1925 and 1927 to improve facilities and capacity for traffic to and from Torbay and on towards Cornwall etc. At the same time re-signaling took place and new gantries were built. The one that was built for the western end is now preserved and is very visible when driving from the station towards Torquay. I am not hugely up on different signal arms but I am sure someone will update me. The metal bridge nearby is quite a good place to photograph any steam and diesel specials that come through, should you be so inclined.
