Geocache Description:

Fort McAllister Historic Park is located on the banks of the Ogeechee River, this scenic park showcases the best-preserved earthwork fortification of the Confederacy. Nestled among giant live oaks, Spanish moss and salt marsh, this park is a beautiful location for camping, fishing, boating and picnicking. It is also part of Georgia’s Colonial Coast Birding Trail so bring a picnic, experience the park’s history, and see the wildlife on the nearby nature trail.

The posted coordinates will take you to the trail head for the Red Bird Creek Trail.

There is an additional waypoint for parking. This is where you will need to park as there is no parking available at the trail head for the Red Bird Creek Trail.

From the parking lot you will need to make your way to the trail head for the Red Bird Creek Trail. You will drive by it on your way to the parking lot. You are looking for a blue pole with the number '0' and it says 'Red Bird Creek Tr'. Head down the gravel road which is the beginning of the trail.

Continue down the gravel road until you reach an information sign that has an arrow pointing you into the woods and down the Red Bird Creek Trail

Directly across the gravel road/trail, in the opposite direction of the arrow, approximately 40' from the arrow, you find a long log. The prize you seek is on the backside of the log.

Remember this is a Letterbox/Hybrid Cache so DO NOT TAKE THE STAMP. It is the one in a plastic bag labeled DO NOT TAKE!

Once you sign the cache log you can follow the arrow and find the rest of the caches along the Red Bird Creek Trail. Enjoy!

Remember to Get Out, Get Dirty, Get Fit and enjoy the park!
