Geocache Description:

You will need to walk about 200 feet down this uneven, root and rock-laden trail. To the left, you will see a marvelous tree with 7 trunks, forming a sort of giant tree goblet. Go over and look inside the goblet. The cache is there in a camo snap-lock container.

Warning - sometimes it is muddy. Enjoy the sounds under the forest canopy.

This cache is located on a very old trail that dates to the time of colonial Sullivan. Located in what is called North Sullivan, Taunton Drive was the 'center of town' for this small settlement. Many of the old homes still stand and are a delight to see. Simple A frame homes, redone over the years, but the houses themselves date back as far as 1809. Higg Road, an offshoot of Taunton Drive, was only paved 4 years ago; prior to that it had been a dirt road for over 150 years. Opposite the road from the trailhead is a wooded lot, with remnants and an older home in retro colors. This was the site of a homestead from Sullivan's past, and you can still see the gnarled ancient apple trees dwarfed by the newer, taller trees. The apple trees still bear a bit of fruit in the fall, but it'd be tough accessing them with the amount of overgrowth. The trail on the other side of the road, that leads into a pine forest, has survived in much better condition. Occasionally used by locals with their ATVs, this trail is ancient! It is infrequently used, but its age have worn it well into the forest floor. I was told it led to a nice spring, which the old homesteaders would have surely used. In the past I had not been able to reach the end of the trail due to too many trees fallen across it. Perhaps now the path is clear, and maybe an adventuring geocacher would go to the end and tell us what lies there.
