Geocache Description:

A cache on the Leicester ring road and a Roman road.

It is not quite a cache and dash, as parking is not recommended next to the cache.

This cache is on the Leicester ring road and the route of the Roman road from Leicester to Colchester. See also GC89MTK Did the Romans build this walk?*, GCB537W No cycling!, GCB55DB Did the Romans walk this way?* and GCA866F Longum iter est Camulodunum. The line of the footpath across the golf course suggests that it is part of that road. Why not walk across the golf course to Shady Lane Arboretum while here? It is a pleasant walk, apart from the golf.

*Did the Romans play golf? Er ... no. The game of golf appears to have been invented in the Low Countries sometime after 1200. Despite efforts to stamp it out (in 1360 the Brussels town council threatened players with a fine of 20 shillings and confiscation of their overcoats), it survived and migrated to Scotland and in due course (excuse the pun) arrived in Leicester.

There is no need to get stung while retrieving this cache! If you do you are in the wrong place!

The ring road is busy and fast just here, so take care!

If coming by car I recommend parking in Romway Road at the parking waypoint.

A Leicester Circular cache

This cache has been placed in an attempt, by a group of Leicester based geocachers, to encircle Leicester by placing caches along the route of the outer ring road (A563). I hope you enjoy finding this and the other caches placed to achieve this. If you live in Leicester, why not help us by placing your own caches along the route?
